We are students from Cardiff University, taking over this blog section to showcase young people’s point of view on a variety of topics around the Royal Commonwealth Society of Wales and the Commonwealth.
In today’s globalized world, fostering relationships between people from various different nations across the world is more important than ever. In this sense, ‘A Connected Commonwealth’ has been chosen by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as the Commonwealth theme in 2019 to emphasise the importance of cross-cultural collaboration. This year, the Commonwealth celebrates its 70th anniversary and the aims of the Royal Commonwealth Society are as relevant today as ever before.
This introductory blog is the first in a series of 18 posts that you can find here in this blog section over the course of the next three weeks. Our posts will cover a variety of topics from the Commonwealth in general to advice on how to get involved with the Royal Commonwealth Society of Wales in particular. These posts are part of a campaign assignment we are doing for our master’s degree and we hope you will join us on this journey!
We are a diverse group of six university students who all study in the School of Journalism, Media and Culture at Cardiff University. We come from four different countries: Ashashi is from Nigeria, Kathleen is from England, Daniel is from Germany and Eva, Sophie and Leticia are from China.
Our class showcases the advantages of cross-cultural teamwork and we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have the chance to meet people from all over the world on a daily basis. Getting involved with the Commonwealth offers many opportunities for international collaboration to you. You will get the invaluable chance to learn more about other cultures and countries. The Commonwealth allows you to experience the world without traveling and to forge strong friendships with people from all over the world.
