2025 VJ80 Victory in Japan Remembrance Service, Cardiff, Wales.
RCS Wales at the Wales National War Memorial for the VJ Day event in Cardiff honouring Welsh and Commonwealth veterans who served in the Asia-Pacific during WWII. A moving tribute to their courage, service, and sacrifice.
The Commonwealth played a vital role in securing victory in Japan during the Second World War. Forces from across the Commonwealth fought in the Asia–Pacific theatre, often in some of the most difficult conditions of the war.
Troop Contributions: Millions of men and women from India, Africa, the Caribbean, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and other Commonwealth nations served in Burma, Malaya, Singapore, and the Pacific islands. The Indian Army alone was the largest volunteer army in history, with over 2.5 million men.
Support Services: Commonwealth personnel provided crucial medical, engineering, and logistical support that sustained the Allied advance.
Naval and Air Power: Commonwealth navies and air forces worked alongside British and American forces in the Pacific, contributing to the eventual defeat of Japan.
Civilian Sacrifice: Civilians across the Commonwealth supported the war effort through industry, food production, and financial contributions.
Victory in Japan was therefore not just a British or American triumph, it was truly a Commonwealth effort, built on shared sacrifice and service.
